Maroon Activties as a Ministry
The mission of the Butte Central Activities Department is to foster a community of faith that is deeply rooted in the life of Christ. One of the fundamental goals of the Activities Program is to challenge students as teammates to deepen their faith through teamwork, prayer, service to others, Gospel values, the celebration of Mass, and the pursuit of excellence.
This Fall, The Maroon Activities Program will launch a new and innovative program designed to inspire family, togetherness, team unity, and leadership. Christian values, sportsmanship, and prayer will be stressed through the program. All 8 boys and girls sports teams, cheerleading, speech and debate, music, and drama students will participate in this exciting school-wide ministry. The program will include all 6th- 12th grade students who participate in activities.
Prayer experiences will be implemented as an important part of the program. Prayer opportunities will be integrated into practice, pregame, and post-game routines, and music and drama performances. Team prayer services, retreats, and speakers with spiritual and faith formation messages will be planned.
The celebration of Mass will also be an important element in the program. The BC Activities Department will hold special fall, winter, and spring Masses. Once each season there will also be a designated Saturday or Sunday that students will attend Masses as a team in local parishes.
Serving others in our community will be another key component of the program. Each team or group will have a planned community service endeavor or activity.
Finally, the program will include mentorship, leadership, and positive culture building activities. Students and teams will be encouraged to mentor and support younger students in the BC Family. In addition, students will be encouraged to support other teams and activities and to participate in their parish and Church life.
“We want our students to be part of something that is bigger than themselves,” proclaimed Denise Chrest, Butte Central Catholic High School Principal. “Through prayer and service, we hope to strengthen our community of faith.”
